Farmer's Market 2014, Trip #6

Thursday, July 31

The farmer's market I usually frequent is held outdoors for a few hours one day a week, and I usually go after work when my choices for the most part consist of 'leftovers'... basically, what people who were able to go to the market earlier than me decided not to take home with them. This isn't usually a problem because the farms are always teeming with vegetables of all kinds whatever hour of the day it happens to be, so I'm not usually missing out by going later in the day. But I hadn't been able to find strawberries for weeks! This week I decided to go instead in the morning to the indoor farmer's market adjacent to where I work, and I was able to bring home a few things I haven't seen at the other market. This also worked out nicely because by the time my work day was over, I was so exhausted that I drove straight home and fell asleep for three hours. But at least I had my fruits and veggies!

This week's purchases: blueberries, corn, yellow peaches, small carrots, orange and yellow peppers, and strawberries.

Blueberries galore!

Wardrobe Flashback

Tuesday, July 29

Over the weekend I organized my digital photo albums and I came across some long forgotten about treasures. Maybe treasures isn't the correct word, but sometimes it's fun to look back on the person you were at one point in time, especially when you have photographic evidence. These were my first real attempt at what I wore photos... they never ended up anywhere online because at the time I wasn't really blogging, save for a seldom-updated food blog. They date back to 2008/2009, when I had just moved back home after college and was working jobs here and there before getting my first 'real' pastry gig. I can honestly say I do not own any of these items of clothing anymore, except for the hats and those red shorts. It's fun to see how my style has changed since then; I thought some of you may get a kick out of seeing a bit of the old me...

It does make me miss my long hair though...

Happy Birthday, Lloyd!

Monday, July 28

Today marks exactly one year since we brought Lloyd home with us. We're not sure how old he really is, but by the vet's estimation he should be anywhere from 2.5 to 3 years old. But we'll count today as his birthday, since it's the day he came into our lives and nestled into our hearts. He was such a curious little beat-up guy when we first met, and now he's a husky fluffy ball of ridiculousness. He has turned around every non-cat-lover we know - everyone loves Lloyd! And it's not hard to see why, between his silly haircut, his mellow attitude, and his undeniable charm (especially when he's hungry...), he's the coolest cat I know. I can't think of any other cat I'd drive 400 miles for!

Here are a few of my favorite Lloyd posts:

Week in Photos: Week 30

Sunday, July 27

He looks disgusted, but I just caught him mid-yawn.

Shawn's mom came to visit and we all hung out on the floor together.

Someone made a terrible font decision.

We bought a case of Beer Camp and are slowly working our way through each.

Mini key lime pies!

So many tart shells!

Cantaloupe takes me back to childhood. This one was soooo good.

I made a peach blueberry pie. The crust was pretty darn good.

Our first squirrel visitor at the new apartment!

There's a stand at the farmer's market near work that sells just the marshmallows from Lucky Charms cereal.

Sylvester selfie!

I usually do pink or red but sea foam green seemed nice today.

Lloyd is the master (and he doesn't let Sylvester forget it).

Made myself a Moscow mule before tackling the dishes.

I hope you had an awesome week! I took a quick trip into New Jersey on Saturday but didn't take any photos, though I did eat some bangin' huevos rancheros. Other than that, it was a pretty quiet week of recovering from the heavier workload of the week before. I took a ton of photos of the cats, of course... but you'll just have to wait for those ;)

Fun Finds Friday #67

Friday, July 25

Loved this post on the flybird with photos of Nicaragua. Gotta travel more!!

I love the aesthetic blend (and patio, and rooftop!) of this home in Point Breeze.
Shawn and I should really venture outside of the confines of IKEA every once in a while.

I'm dying to explore some abandoned areas of the Poconos!

I'm curious to find out how well beeswrap works.

+ No, I actually don't have as many hours in that day as Beyonce
+ How much does the American Dream really cost?
+ What it means to be a part of the Facebook generation.
+ Um, Comcast, I really would prefer not to give you my business.

Happy Friday!!

Linvilla Orchards

Thursday, July 24

This past Sunday, Shawn and I went to Linvilla Orchards to pick our own fruit! I've picked pumpkins and christmas trees in the past, but never berries and peaches, so it was the first time for both of us. We had so much fun picking blueberries and peaches, and the fruits of our labor (ha!) taste so damn good. The only downside was that we weren't allowed to walk to any of the fields and we had to wait for a tractor to take us there, along with a ton of families with young kids... if I had known that, I would have picked a different orchard... part of the fun was supposed to be walking around from field to field! Oh well, we had a good time nonetheless. It also gave me a chance to play around with my new phone camera. Though apparently I didn't think to take any photos of the peach portion of the day. I think that's a common problem amongst bloggers; you're torn between wanting to document everything but also wanting to enjoy the experience. Well, on Sunday I definitely focused more on enjoying the experience!

Does anyone know what types of bugs those are? The naughty ones and the larva-looking one... they're so neat looking!

Farmer's Market 2014, Trip #5

Wednesday, July 23

This week's trip was a light one, because we still have potatoes and squash from last week, along with blueberries and peaches from our Sunday picking trip. Last week was a busy work week for both of us so I guess we didn't end up cooking dinner as often as we usually do... so I picked up a few things I know we can easily integrate into our dinners for this week, along with the radish as a snack for myself!

This week I brought home: a bunch of radishes, an onion, some zucchini and yellow squash, and some juicy cherry tomatoes.

The Cat Life - 3

Monday, July 21

At least once a week I find myself looking all over the apartment for Lloyd... he usually turns up in a box somewhere, yet for some reason I never think to check those first. Shawn pulled that blue bin out of his closet to go through some of the things inside of it, but he hasn't had a chance to yet because Lloyd has been posted on top of it for the past two days. And Sylvester just wants to be wherever Lloyd is, so where you find one cat, you can usually find the other nearby.
