Happy Sly-iversary!

Friday, June 16

Today marks three years since we brought Sylvester into our family! He's still just as handsome, chatty, and cuddly as ever. I thought I'd celebrate by posting some ridiculous photos of him. Enjoy!

That last one is my favorite - it looks like he's sticking his tongue out at the world. Or trying to catch a fly buzzing around him ;) Happy anniversary, Sylvester- this little family certainly wouldn't be the same without you!

Cats Overload

Friday, June 2

Holy smokes, I haven't done a cat post since January! I guess I owe y'all one! (Well, and apparently I hadn't uploaded any photos to my computer since early April... where the hell have I been?!) Here's a selection of photos from January through today. If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen a few of these already. And if you don't follow me on Instagram... why the heck not?! It's the mecca of Lloyd photos over there, for real! I could do the cat blogger thing and create a separate Instagram for them, but then I'd have nothing to post on my regular one ;)

June marks two things around here - one year since Lloyd's dental surgery, and halfway through the month, three years with Sylvester! Lloyd has had zero teeth issues since the surgery - yay! (Knock on wood... I still can't believe the whirlwind that was last June; here's hoping that this year June will be less intense for all of us!) The boys have been getting along so well lately - I catch them snuggled up together on the couch or our bed almost daily - they've come such a long way in three years! We were reflecting on it recently and realized that Lloyd was probably standoffish initially because he was dealing with all his teeth stuff. Ever since his surgery and moving into this apartment, the two of them have really been thriving together.

Sylvester begs us daily to let him out onto the balcony... Lloyd is slightly more hesitant to go outside. We're thinking about getting them a little tent for outside so that we don't have to watch them so intently to make sure they don't escape onto our neighbor's balcony. Right now, they get short spurts of time outside with us but get put right back inside as soon as any funny business starts. Some birds made a nest inside the pillar on the one side of our balcony, and Lloyd is obsessed with trying to get the baby birds. It's pretty funny, actually... every time we sit out on the balcony, Papa bird flies out and stands on a nearby branch and chirps at us until we go back inside. Gotta love noisy neighbors.

So that's your cat update! I promise I won't wait another six months before the next one. I actually have a silly series of photos of Sylvester to post for his anniversary - so stay tuned!

Couch Cats

Thursday, January 12

Happy 2017! I spent the first two weeks of the new year reflecting on (to quote from one of my favorite books...) life, the universe, and everything. I have all sorts of fun posts buzzing around in my brain for over the next few weeks, but sometimes it's nice to take a step back and just be. So, while I take time to accurately put my thoughts to paper (er, screen), I thought it'd be nice to share a few cat photos in the meantime.

I bought an iPhone 7 at the end of last year, and holy shit - the camera is amazing! I thought the camera on my LG was great, and hesitated to upgrade, but I'm so glad I did. My favorite feature? The portrait setting. It's like having an SLR right at my fingertips. So of course, I've been taking photos of the cats any chance I get! You'd think from looking at these that they were all taken on the same day, but the reality is that these guys just really love our couch, and that's where they spend 80% of their time, so that's the backdrop for all of these.

Now you're probably thinking, why hasn't she shared photos of the new apartment yet? It's been six months! Well, the truth is, the living room has been ready to show off for a while... but our couch was free and is in not-so-great shape aesthetically, so I bought some fabric to reupholster it... in October. Yeah, did I mention I'm a big time procrastinator? Once I get some new cushions on there, I'll be happy to show it off (along with the rest of the room)! But in the meantime, you can just look at Lloyd and Sylvester ;)

(That last one makes me smile like a big goofball - I love when I catch them cuddling!)

Also, I've had a few people ask about how Lloyd is faring, and I realized I hadn't given an update in a while. He is doing great! Seriously great. He hasn't had any problems with his mouth or teeth since the surgery (knock on wood), and the way he chomps down on food, both wet and dry, you'd never know he only has seven teeth! The little dude is in a great mood all the time; still rockin' the silly poses, and wanting cuddles more than ever. I've said it before, and I will say it again, thank you all SO MUCH for helping us out last year. I don't know if Lloyd realizes how many fans he has in the world, but we are certainly beyond grateful for all the love that surrounds him.a

Rainbow Lloyd

Tuesday, October 18

I recently bought some window film for the door in our kitchen, purely for the sake of a little extra privacy. I didn't realize it would create some pretty amazing rainbows throughout our kitchen and living room too! Here's a little bit of rainbow Lloyd for you on this fine Tuesday afternoon.

Happy Birthday, Lloyd!

Wednesday, July 27

As Facebook so kindly reminded Shawn and I this morning, today marks three years since the day we brought Lloyd home with us! I'm pretty sure everyone says this, but it feels like he has been here so much longer than that. He has been with us through three different apartments, so that probably has something to do with it. The little guy is a pro at moving by now, for sure!

I miss the initial days when it was just the three of us, and Lloyd would hear my alarm go off each morning and come barreling through the bedroom door to pounce on our bellies until we got out of bed... but I'm also super grateful that he and Sylvester hit it off as well as they have - we really couldn't have asked for a better pair! He still loves to cuddle with me (he is such a mama's boy!), just not in the mornings anymore. Lately he has been sneakily following me around... I'll be at my desk and turn around and there he is! Or he'll join me on the pillow sometimes for my morning meditation. Right now he's watching me from the doorway as I type this. Laying all ridiculous, of course. (And now as I finish writing this, he has taken residence on my desk, in hopes that I will give him all the love.)

If you want to take a trip down memory lane like we did the other day, this post is a good starting point. Shawn and I can't believe how small he used to be! We didn't believe the vet when he said he was only about 1-2 years old, but looking at him now, it is definitely plausible that Lloyd was only just over a year old when he came home with us. I also can't believe someone would just let such a tiny guy loose in the streets... but hey, if they hadn't, Kaylah never would have found him and he wouldn't be here with us today. Things happen for a reason, I suppose. We are so grateful to have him as part of the family.

Happy birthday, Lloyd!!!

Pssst! I don't think I've shown you guys this before, but two years ago I commissioned a drawing of Lloyd and I by Mel Stringer. It's hanging above my desk and I love it! I think she captured Lloyd perfectly!

Happy Birthday, Sylvester!

Wednesday, July 20

I am a horrible cat mom... this is the second year in a row that I have forgotten Sylvester's adoption birthday! It was all the way back in June... June 16th, 2014 to be exact! So he has been part of the family for over two years now, though it feels like so much longer. The month of June was total madness here, so somehow his birthday slipped our minds. I'll make up for it with plenty of cuddles!

Sly's a big guy with a big personality. It's funny, everyone who comes over always starts off by gushing about how cute Lloyd is, but then Sylvester settles into their lap and eventually when it's time for them to go home, they want to take him with them. He's a lover who wants nothing more than to rest his head on your arm while you pet him with your other hand. He gets so jealous of all the attention Lloyd gets, that he wants all the cuddles all the time. Especially from Shawn - Sly is such a daddy's boy! He follows Shawn around the apartment and lays on him wherever he settles down. When Shawn comes home from work, Sly runs down the hallway to greet him. I don't get that kind of attention! He looks cute and innocent, but don't let that fool you - he loves doing alllll the things he's not supposed to... like using the couch as a scratching post, or jumping up onto the dining table, or getting up in our faces to steal chips when we're snacking on the couch. (He loves chips!)

We wish we knew how old he is, but because he was a stray we can't do much more than guess. Our estimate is that he's anywhere from 5-6 years old. Even though he was adopted after Lloyd and we call him the younger brother, he's probably at least a year older than Lloyd, if not more. Lloyd grew a ton after we adopted him, but Sly has been the same size since we've had him... so he's definitely older.

Happy birthday, Sly-guy! We're so happy you joined the family!
