Week in Photos: Week 29

Every week starts with pizza... you should know this by now.

I helped work a catering on Saturday (after making five different cakes for them)... they wanted all the cakes on this small cart, but there was barely enough room for all the cakes!




One good thing about working the catering was that I finally got to see the inside of the cakes I made!

Today was a beautiful day to pick blueberries!




Definitely a beautiful day.




We picked two quarts of blueberries and a few peaches (not much in the way of peaches today)... all delicious.

Farmer's Market 2014, Trip #4

Last week's pie was disappointing (more than half of it is still sitting in our fridge), so I decided to skip that particular stand this week and treated myself to flowers instead. The man who runs the stand is fun to talk to. I told him that my last bouquet from him lasted me two weeks and he asked if I kept giving them fresh water. I replied, Of course! to which he responded, "Yeah, they love that stuff." He's always extremely pleasant and positive, and I'm happy to buy my flowers from him. Apparently this week's bouquet has some sort of wild mint in it!

This week I got: a cucumber, yellow squash, zucchini, potatoes (we love 'em around here!), lots of blueberries (twice as much as usual... I'm thinking of baking a little somethin' somethin'....), frozen bison meat, and a lovely bouquet of flowers.





I got a new phone last weekend and I'm still playing around with the camera (among other things, and probably will be for a while). I initially had trouble uploading my photos from it onto my mac, but I figured it out, and also found out that I'm using the super landscape mode, so my photos are a little shorter than usual... but they're so vibrant! I'm super happy with them so far, and I've adjusted the height/width ratio for all subsequent photos, though I really don't mind the super landscape feel that these have.

Spruce Street Harbor Park & The Twisted Tail

On Saturday a friend and I took the train downtown to check out Spruce Street Harbor Park. It's a pop-up park that has a boardwalk, barges, lily pad gardens, hammocks, games, a bar and restaurant, and on Saturdays, a little market with vendors selling all sorts of handmade goodies! It was pretty crowded by the time we got there at 2pm, but we got to walk around, check out the market, and have a drink. It's a fun little addition to Philly's waterfront, and if you're in the Philadelphia area, I would definitely recommend checking it out! The hammocks fill up quickly so if you're looking to snag one of those, I'd show up early or visit during the week. They also limit the amount of people allowed on the barges, due to weight constraints, but it's worth the wait because that's where all the fun stuff is!

Afterwards, we walked a few blocks over to The Twisted Tail, for great food and drinks. They're known for their whiskey selection (I mean, they are a bourbon house...), though we both opted for cocktails and a wine cooler (wine + bourbon + fruit!). We were hoping to try some of their empanadas but we came too early for the dinner menu and chose off of their brunch menu instead. I seriously debated getting their chicken and sweet potato waffles, but wimped out at the last minute and ordered a buttermilk chicken sandwich instead. Maybe next time! I didn't get any decent photos of the place, but they have huge portraits of classic rock artists up in one corner of the dining room, along with some pretty eclectic seating and lighting throughout. Really neat to check out if only for that fact!





I love their tribute to George Thorogood... Shawn would really appreciate this whole list. I'll definitely be going back there with him and some other friends soon!

Summer Staples

top, shorts, bracelet: Anthropologie / shoes: Birkenstock
This is my take on summer casual - the usual combination of t-shirt, shorts, and sandals. I'm not much of a t-shirt wearer so I'll reach for a blouse most days, though this particular top crosses the line between both, because the outer layer is blouse-y but then the under layer is a soft jersey material. These denim shorts and Birkenstocks have been my go-tos all spring and summer... I haven't found a more comfortable pair of shorts or sandals, although I may be due for a new pair of Birks soon if I keep that pattern up!

When I do these what I wore posts, it often makes me feel like a walking advertisement for Anthropologie. I only worked there for a few months but while I was there, I replaced a lot of items in my wardrobe with staples (and fun things, of course!) from Anthropologie... so now whenever I get dressed I find myself reaching for at least one Anthropologie piece. Hence, everything in this post, with the exception of my shoes, comes from Anthropologie.

The Cat Life - 2

Lloyd is such a ham for the camera... on the contrary, Sylvester just likes to rub his face on it when you approach him. He likes to rub his face on everything! He woke Shawn up this morning by putting his head against Shawn's hand and pretty much petting himself. At least that's a bit easier of a wake up than his usual super chatty pounce into bed. What a guy!
